About us

Our Mission

Nu Quantum is building the Entanglement Fabric to unlock commercial quantum computing scale-out.

Our Story

Nu Quantum was founded in 2018 as a spin-out of the University of Cambridge to commercialise research generated over the last decade at the Cavendish Laboratory. Since then, we have built a strong IP portfolio and multidisciplinary team to develop market-led quantum networking solutions.

We are a growing team of 60+ across nine technical disciplines with research laboratories in Cambridge and Harwell, UK, and an office in Los Angeles, US. At the heart of our company is a deep belief in the power of diversity. We embrace the unique perspectives that come from a team of individuals with different backgrounds, experiences, and ideas.

Our strength lies in fostering an inclusive culture where every voice is heard and differences are celebrated, where every individual can grow and collaborate in pursuit of shared innovation.

Backed by world-class investors

Roland Acra

Roland's career spans over three decades of technology and innovation leadership, in large-scale executive capacities as well as in startup leadership roles. He started his professional career developing new to the world packet networking and distributed systems technologies at 3Com and Interphase. He then played pivotal roles driving massive revenue growth at Cisco, first in EMEA field leadership positions, then in product leadership in internet access, broadband, and core router markets as a General Manager of business units, during the foundational internet buildout years. As President and CEO of Arch Rock, Roland led the creation of new industry categories in the areas of IPv6-based sensing, internet of things, and smart grid and energy analytics and optimisation. Roland subsequently led Cisco's cloud innovations as the General Manager of its Data Center Business Group, then its overall technology strategy as Chief Technology Officer. He recently served as Chief Business Officer at PsiQuantum, where he led the company's customer and market facing functions as well as the quantum application engineering team developing algorithms and tools to solve customer applications.Roland is a graduate of Ecole Polytechnique and Télécom Paris in France, and he holds a M.Sc. degree in Statistics from Texas A&M University, where he also served as an Advisor to its Masters in Business Analytics program.

Dr. Carmen Palacios-Berraquero

Dr. Carmen Palacios-Berraquero is the Founder and Chief Executive of Nu Quantum, the leading quantum entanglement company, which recently raised a £8.5M pre-Series A from leading VCs including Amadeus Capital, IQ Capital, and the National Security Strategic Investment Fund (NSSIF). She is an award-winning quantum physicist and inventor, author of several high-impact research papers and a book based on her doctoral research. Prior to founding Nu Quantum, Carmen earned her PhD in physics at the University of Cambridge and undergraduate at Imperial College London. She also serves on the Technical Advisory Board of the UK’s National Quantum Computing Centre and is Cofounder and Director of UKQuantum, the UK’s quantum industry group. She has been the leader of several pro-equality and LGBTQIA+ visibility groups, and initiatives in STEM and has been featured in Wired, Bloomberg, Forbes, BBC, and Sifted.
